We were the first Optometry practice in Hastings back in 1906, we have many 'firsts' to our credit, and we continue to be 'first' today. We are the only practice to offer Behavioural Optometry services with a fully equipped Vision Therapy room and state of the art electronic therapies.
We are the only Irlen Clinic in Hawkes Bay providing Diagnostic and Treatment Services for Irlen Syndrome. We are the only Cellfield Therapists in Hawkes Bay for Reading disabilities. We are the only practice to offer OrthoKeratology to control Myopia.
We're the specialists!
We do not put our patients under any sales pressure, preferring the gentle Kiwi way of doing business, the way we were brought up to behave. If we can make a difference to your child's performance we will. If we cannot, then we will make recommendations on what to do next Our relationship with the people of Hawkes Bay has always been one of dedicated service and affordable quality, perhaps you have tried us already?
If not, then do be influenced by the many panels of judges who have examined our business in fine detail over the last 15 years, during which we have won "Best Professional Business in Hastings", "Best Business Overall in Hastings" on 3 occasions, 2011 being the most recent! In 2009 we won the Chamber of Commerce "Best Retail Business" & "Best Small Business" for the whole region of Hawkes Bay!
It takes serious commitment to make that happen year after year.
Our 8 year old grandson has had difficulty with his reading and because of this he has been falling behind in his class work.
A recommendation was made that the "Cellfield Intervention Vision Link System" may be of benefit to him. An appointment was made with Mark Eagle at "Shattky Optometrists" for an assessment which showed that he was 'dyslectic' and the program would suit.
Recently we were asked by our son and his wife to transport Eoin to some of the sessions under this system and we were able to sit in on these sessions. We would like to say how impressed we are in the progress he has made each week and also the confidence he has gained in himself and with his ability now to read aloud and enjoying doing so.
We understand that his school work has benefited greatly in that he has now progressed from a 'level 4' to a 'level 8' in his reading which means he is now near to the standard he should be for his age group. His spelling has improved as well and he is now only one stage lower than he should be for his age group.
We must also commend Renee with her ability to gain Eoin's confidence and friendship at an early stage which helped immensely throughout the course.
We would have no hesitation in recommending this course to any child with this type of disability.
Willow can now complete her homework, she is beginning to read for pleasure, her confidence is still much improved, sports skills also better, she is less tired after school which is an indication that her brain is less stressed/more efficient in the classroom environment, she often re-uses the Cellfield reading technique to speed herself back up again, her confidence is growing. She is a changed lass indeed!
We now have a motivated and confident student.
For us as parents it was important to understand that our beautiful daughter wasn't 'slow' to write and finish her work as her teachers constantly labelled her. She worked soo hard at her reading, and had finally gotten herself to a 'reading age' according to teachers, but, in my opinion she wasn't reading fluently like her brother and sister had at that age. Yes, she could read and understand each individual word, but reading was a laborious task for her, and each work was thought about, stunted and slowed. Writing was even slower.
We went away with this diagnosis and took some time to mull this over and consider whether or not to follow up with Mark's recommended treatment. Never were we pushed into following a treatment, and this was appreciated. We were naturally a little skeptical as there was a sizeable financial commitment as well as the huge time commitment; however, we wanted our daughter to have the opportunity to learn at the same rate as her peers.
At all stages of the program Mark was friendly, knowledgeable and professional, he explained every step and stage to me in a simple detail that made logical sense, he included our daughter in these conversations and empowered her by making her confident and proud of herself.
Kiwi's know that good things take time, so come to us, have the tests done without feeling that you have been "rushed thru", and you'll know what we mean when we say "we take the time!"
