More than 20,000 Rugby concussions in NZ over the last 13 years

A total of 635,657 rugby injury claims were made to the Accident Compensation Corporation for players aged five to 40 years between 2005 and 2017

Of these injuries, about 3 percent, or 20,000 were concussions.

However, researchers believe that this is actually an under-reporting due to athletes’ fear of missing future games / practices or their obliviousness to having concussions.

Are we looking after our athletes?
