The best in 21st Century technology Eyecare for you

Optometrists are specialists in the examination of eyes, screening for disease and problems, prescribing ocular drugs, prescribing spectacles & prescribing contact lenses.

A comprehensive eye examination has many parts, there are many test to do, to explain & then to act upon.

Electronic instrument technology is now a big part of optometry.

Shattky's has been committed to this for many years, we are big enough to make the capital investment in the latest equipment and we get the use out of the equipment to make it financially viable.

It is not sufficient to merely possess this technology, each one involves much training in operation, interpretation and diagnosis. Once we have the technology we commit to using it constantly to keep up the search for previously undetected eye conditions, especially those without symptoms. This means all our patients benefit, not just those who are known to have a problem. Our staff perform many of the tests before you see the optometrist so that we can spend most of our appointment advancing from the strong basis that those results give. Some of the instruments can be used at different levels of sensitivity, so we can re-test on -the-spot to the highest level of threshold sensitivity whenever we find suspicious screening scores.

Not all tests need to be done everytime, we will advise you on this, but the advantage of continuity with us is that we then quickly spot when your results deviate from what is normal for you.

Instruments don't make diagnoses; Optometrists do.

Of course it is also important to remember that at the end of the day it is the skilled and experience judgement of the optometrist that makes sense of the large amount of data that we capture for each individual we see.

Eye Safety is now a big part of Eyecare

90% of eye injuries can be prevented by wearing proper eye protection.

In Industrial situations this means specific certified spectacles, but we are always thinking of your safety in other places as well.

Glass is now seldom used for spectacle lenses, and the very safe Polycarbonate material has taken over. It has a high UV absorption, a very high impact resistance and is both thin & light to wear.
